He is 18-year-old Tavis Deon Wilson of Riviera Beach. Lawmen say he's turned himself in to authorities. Wilson is suspected of being the man who ended up in a shootout with police in Riviera Beach on Monday. He faces several charges.
According to the police, Wilson was found sleeping in his car at a gas station early Monday. According to witnesses, that's when shots rang out. They report hearing anywhere from 30 to 40 shots being fired in the exchange. Several of the lawmen, as is procedure, have been placed on administrative leave. What started it all was someone calling police to report a man asleep in a car with a gun on the passenger's seat.
The Palm Beach Post is reporting that Florida Department of Law Enforcement records show Wilson has been arrested eight times since 2009.
