FWC: Report Black Bear Sightings

While sightings of black bears may be rare in the Southeastern portion of the state, officials with the state's Wildlife Conservation Commission want you to be on the lookout.

They are seeking the public's help in figuring out where all of the estimated 3,000 Florida black bears are living.

According to the Palm Beach Post, the FWC has confirmed a sighting of a black bear West of Jupiter, near the Corbett Wildlife Management area.  While wildlife officials admit that the bears primarily live in the state's preserves, such as Big Cypress near the Southwest coast, they say a male bear's home range can be anywhere from 50 to 120 miles.

Right now, the bears are out searching for food, as they look to pack on the pounds for the winter.  The Fish and Wildlife Commission figures if you travel to areas where sightings happen more frequently, you might want to help out.
